Education and Inspiration
Giving places new meaning, Vera Sanches Osório graduated in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of Lisbon and also studied at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura del Vallés in Barcelona. She loves Lisbon, but her favourite place is Cascais, her hometown, with its family rhythm of life and meeting points between the sea and the mountains. She is passionate about the Sintra hills, the scent of trees, the sound of water flowing through fountains, and the vibrant colours of the palaces in contrast with the surrounding greenery.
Professional Path
Vera began her career at the Frederico Valsassina atelier, where she worked for six years. She mainly collaborated on building restoration projects in Lisbon, including works on Avenida da República, Rua Rosa Araújo, Mendonça Palace, Rua das Janelas Verdes, and the transformation of the former CUF Infante Santo hospital into a private condominium.
Philosophy and Personal Side
For Vera, architecture reveals “how a ‘place’ can be appropriated by Man in all its aspects, ultimately leading to the ability to touch it, as if it transmits such significant sensations that make each person want to become part of it.”
Reworking existing spaces challenges her both technically and symbolically, helping her explore the essence of each site and layering its past, present, and future. Giving places new meaning is what drives her design vision and purpose.
A nature lover, Vera enjoys walking with her family, having picnics, and horse riding. The movement of the horse and her connection to the outdoors bring her a deep sense of calm and freedom.
