This private villa in Bayswater, central London, is undergoing a complete refurbishment, with our studio brought in to develop the interiors from the ground up, the brief was to create a home that feels effortless to live in – like a classic London elegance and contemporary comfort, with an understated, timeless character that would evolve naturally over time.

The design takes inspiration from the richness and familiarity of classic London interiors, but introduces a more contemporary sensibility, creating a balance between tradition and modernity. Traditional references are carefully reinterpreted through cleaner lines, restrained detailing and a considered palette of natural materials, so that the spaces feel elegant and timeless without becoming overly formal. Stone and timber form the foundations of the scheme, bringing texture, warmth and a sense of permanence, while nature-inspired elements are layered throughout to soften the architecture and create a calm, welcoming atmosphere. The result is a home that feels sophisticated but also relaxed and effortless, where each material and detail works together to create a sense of comfort and understated luxury.

A key part of the project was also the integration of selected pieces of existing furniture from the clients’ previous homes, because these pieces already carry a sense of personal history and meaning. Rather than treating them simply as additions to the new interiors, we chose to thoughtfully incorporate them into the overall design, so that they could naturally sit alongside the new furniture, materials and finishes.

Some pieces were kept almost as they were, while others were given a new context or paired with more contemporary elements, creating an interesting dialogue between past and present. This balance between old and new gives the house a sense of continuity, personality and history, but also makes the interiors feel more authentic, collected and lived-in, rather than overly designed or too perfect.

The result is a home that brings together classic London elegance and contemporary comfort, refined without feeling formal, sophisticated without losing its sense of ease.
